Organising a first-of-its-kind event is never easy. With the support from participants and sponsors, namely: SP Line Trading for Whiteline, Motorvac by Bynergy Asia Pte. Ltd. and Wolf’s Chemical Singapore, the inaugural DriveRite Tarmac Rally-X (TR-X) was successfully held on 25 Jan 2015 at the Malacca International Motorsports Circuit (MIMC). The TR-X event was conceived with the intent of providing motorsports enthusiasts with a refreshing opportunity to combine a short road trip to the charming city of Malacca with a unique Tarmac Rallying experience at MIMC. The completion of the TR-X Inaugural Sampler marked the start of an exciting year ahead for local car enthusiasts. It was not only the end of an event, but the start of a whole new series.
Those who have been attending and following DriveRite’s events would know that DriveRite has always aimed to provide affordable and fun Grassroots Motorsports events for both new and experienced drivers. The key terms “Affordable and Fun” could not be more appropriate in describing the successful TR-X on 25th Jan 2015. The introduction of the TR-X at MIMC was more than welcome and understandably so. TR-X provides affordable tracking opportunities for enthusiasts at a relatively un-tried venue. Participants on 25th Jan enjoyed a truly unique experience on the circuit when the direction of traffic was changed from clockwise to anti- clockwise halfway through the event. Simply put, it was like experiencing two different circuits for the price of one! The price of $88 (early bird price) for a full day of track participation at MIMC seems like a real steal, especially in the light of the increase in track rental rates at Sepang International Circuit and the introduction of a 6% GST in Malaysia from 1 Apr 2015.
Even for experienced drivers and car enthusiasts, the opportunity to visit MIMC was an exciting one. While MIMC is not a new circuit, few have actually tried it. With its signature Touge-style S-bends and hairpin turns, it is a refreshing alternative to the “over-driven” circuits in Johor and Sepang. With a track length of 1.6 km, MIMC is also more attractive for first-timers, in comparison to the daunting Sepang International Circuit, or the harsh Johor Circuit. For the spectators, the grandstand offers a commanding view of the entire circuit, something which they will not get at Sepang or Johor.
Acting on encouraging feedback from participants and sponsors, DriveRite has since released dates for the rest of their events at MIMC: Clockwise Mastery – 26 Apr 2015, Anti-clockwise Mastery – 26 July 2015 and Challenging Stage – 25 Oct 2015. DriveRite hopes that through their series of events, participants will be able to gain insights into their car’s handling and sharpen their car control skills in a conducive environment. In addition, they hope that their events can serve as a platform for like-minded car enthusiasts to connect, bond and forge new friendships.
So next up is the Clockwise Mastery on 26 Apr 2015. Coupled with a cosy hotel stay and scrumptious food from Malacca, a well-planned TR-X weekend getaway could be a fun-filled option for the month of April. Slots for the TR-X Clockwise Mastery have already been snapped up and any new registrations will be placed on the waiting list.
